The Freedom to Do Business

by Rekesha Pittman

Over the past three months alone, multiple Black-owned businesses have made Music City Mall Lewisville a place to call home. Several of our local shop owners shared the importance of Black businesses while reflecting on the upcoming Juneteenth holiday:

“We promote confidence, beauty, and self-love inside and out,” says LaChandria Holt, owner of I Feel Pretty Kids Spa, which embraces self-care and self-esteem for girls at an early age. She believes that our location is the perfect place for businesses to launch due to reasonable rents and an opportunity to establish their brands.

According to Norrell Waynewood of Woodchuck Custom Designs, “Owning a business is very instrumental in achieving the freedom and equality that this country is supposed to represent while enabling future family members to grow and benefit from generational wealth not previously accessible to people of color.”

“For me, Juneteenth is a day to reflect on our nation’s history, a day to celebrate Black lives, a day to acknowledge, remember, learn, and take action – just as we have a responsibility to do every day,” says LaTonya Donaldson, Owner of The Queen’s Parlor, and the official host

In celebration of Juneteenth, Music City Mall Lewisville is the place to be on Saturday, June 18th from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Center Court. Our celebration will feature a vendor expo, a junior fashion show, line dancing, and performances by several music and dance artists throughout the day. Free balloons and face painting for kids will be provided.
